Acceptable Use Policy

01Scope

This policy applies to DAWN, MeterStack, and this website. It forms part of the Terms of Service, and breaching it is a breach of those terms.

It exists mostly because of one fact: DAWN can operate a computer. A metering plugin needs no acceptable use policy. Something that can drive macOS and run commands does.

02Only on machines you are entitled to use

You must only run DAWN on a computer you own, or that you have permission to run automation software on.

• Do not install it on an employer’s or client’s machine without their informed permission. "Informed" means they know it can see the screen and operate applications.
• Do not install it on a shared or public machine.
• Do not use it to access accounts, files, or systems you are not authorised to access.

If you are in a studio, a facility, or a workplace with an IT policy, check it. Screen-capturing agent software is exactly the kind of thing such policies exist to cover.

03Things you must not do

Against other systems and people

• Do not use DAWN’s shell, AppleScript, browser, or Mac control abilities to probe, scan, attack, or gain unauthorised access to any system.
• Do not use it to distribute malware, or to conceal the origin of anything.
• Do not use it to harvest personal data, scrape at scale in breach of a site’s terms, or monitor another person.
• Do not use it to send unsolicited bulk messages.

Against third-party providers

• Do not use DAWN to breach the terms of your AI provider, or to work around their rate limits, safety systems, or regional restrictions.
• Do not use credentials you are not entitled to use, including shared, resold, or scraped API keys.
• Do not use provider outputs in a way their terms prohibit.

In what you create

• Do not create material that infringes copyright, including deliberately reproducing an existing recording or composition and presenting it as new.
• Do not clone or imitate a real person’s voice or likeness without their consent.
• Do not create sexual content involving children, or content that incites violence or hatred, in any form.
• Do not misrepresent AI-generated material as human-performed where doing so would deceive someone to their detriment, or breach the rules of a platform, label, or competition you are submitting to.

Against our software and website

• Do not circumvent the beta expiry, safety confirmations, the kill switch, secure-field protection, or the audit record.
• Do not attack, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to this website. Security research is welcome under the Vulnerability Disclosure Policy.
• Do not automate our download endpoints or forms to generate artificial volume.
• Do not redistribute our software, or present it as your own.

04Do not disable the safety controls

DAWN’s confirmation gates, kill switch, secure-field refusal, and audit record exist so that an agent operating your computer stays accountable. They are part of what makes the feature defensible.

Deliberately circumventing them is a breach of this policy, and it also moves the consequences squarely onto you.

05Who is responsible

You are responsible for what you instruct DAWN to do and for what results. The agent acts on your behalf, on your machine, using your provider account.

We do not monitor your use. We cannot — nothing you do passes through our servers. This policy therefore works on your undertaking, not on our surveillance, which is how we prefer it.

06Enforcement

If we become aware of a breach, we may withdraw your licence, block access to our website and downloads, or decline to supply you in future. Where it is reasonable, we will contact you first.

We will cooperate with law enforcement where we are legally required to.
